Popcap has released some juicy details of their much anticipated sequel of their Plants vs. Zombies franchise. Officially titled as Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time, the original trailer of the game featured different players ranting about the sequel.  Finally, Popcap has finally revealed some interesting details that will let players go on different locations and timeline to battle out the undead.

Currently, the locations being confirmed is Ancient Egypt, Pirate Seas and the Wild West but certainly there could be more locations to be added in the final game. The gameplay is pretty much the same as the original as you will still be having plants on your side while the opposite will spawn different types of zombies that you need to stop.

And of course, no sequel will be complete without new sets of plants and zombies to deal with.  There is also a new major change in the gameplay being added in the sequel and that is the new touchscreen power-up feature that will let players directly interact with zombies in different ways depending on the power-up you have chosen.

If you happen to be scouring the Internet of Plants vs. Zombies, you might stumble upon a title called Grass Effect, that is supposedly a mash-up of Plants vs. Zombies and Mass Effect.  It could be a reference that EA might be showcasing these games over at E3 2013.

So when does Plants Vs. Zombies 2: Its About Time? get released? Right now, the only details we have is for the iOS version arriving on June 18th, 2013 while a temporary exclusive will roll out on the PC and Mac version after the iOS version ends.

Popcap also did said that the game will be a free-to-play title with optional in-game purchases for new power-ups. The company also mentioned that everyone will be able to play all the levels in the game without ever having to spend on real money.
